"My name is Junxi, and today, I want to share my story about how I earned my first NCAA Division I offer to Ohio University as a shooting guard—the first Chinese player in this position to achieve this milestone in the U.S.
Six months ago, I transferred to Erie Prep Academy. Back then, I wasn’t adjusting well to my previous school, and life in the U.S. was overwhelming. When I arrived at Erie Prep, the support I received here changed everything. One of the first things the school did was enroll me in an ESL program. Improving my English was key, not just for my academics but also for understanding my coaches, my teammates, and the game itself.

At Erie Prep, the staff and my peers made sure I didn’t just learn in the classroom but also practiced in everyday life. My teammates, under the guidance of our PG program director, would help me practice English while we trained or hung out. Small conversations about basketball drills, meals, or even jokes slowly built my confidence. Academics are just as important as athletics in the U.S., and I had to keep up with my studies. The school's university application advisor worked closely with me, guiding me step by step through the recruiting process. They helped me create a strong player profile, communicate with coaches, and showcase my skills effectively.
Adjusting to life off the court was another challenge. The RAs (Residential Advisors) at Erie Prep supported me with everything from learning American customs to simply feeling at home in a foreign country. Their help made a big difference in my overall experience. This journey wasn’t always easy, but Erie Prep Academy provided me with the tools and environment to succeed.
From improving my English to connecting with college coaches, every step was a team effort. Now, with my first D1 offer, I’m one step closer to my dream. I’m grateful for the incredible support I’ve received from my school, coaches, teammates, and RAs. Erie Prep Academy didn’t just help me become a better player; it helped me grow as a person."
